Director of Music

Matthew Steynor


Matthew Steynor was director of music at Trinity Cathedral from 2007 to early 2019. In May 2019 he began as Director of Music at St Alban's Episcopal Church in Washington DC.

He is a graduate of Cambridge University (U.K.), where he earned a Master of Arts degree and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education, and holds a Masters degree in Choral Conducting from Florida International University. At Cambridge, he held an organ scholarship at Queens’ College, where he was jointly responsible for the music in the college chapel for three years. Prior to coming to Trinity Cathedral Mr Steynor worked at Great St Mary's in Cambridge, UK, St Thomas Episcopal Parish in Coral Gables, FL and Christ Church Cathedral in Nassau, Bahamas. 

In addition to his duties at Trinity Cathedral, he has also performed (as organist) with the New World Symphony, Seraphic Fire, the Miami Bach Society, Symphony of the Americas and the Miami Symphony Orchestra. A Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, he has performed in many US states and countries; notable venues include the New World Center, Washington National Cathedral and a solo recital at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. Until June 2019 he was also the Artistic Director of the Florida Singing Sons, a boychoir based in Broward County.
